CONTACT IMPROVISATION
& PERFORMANCE CONTACT
Contact Improvisation Levels I & II
Contact Improvisaction is a relational dance based on improvisation within the posibilities that offers the contact with another body.
In these workshops we will work with different elements, from the most technical (weight and counterbalance, balance and imbalance, roll and slide, yield and resist, impulses, supports, inversions, use of the gravity, momentum, inertia, circular space…) to the most subtle (body awareness, listening to self and partner, fluidity, surprise, creativity…). These elements tie together with dance and movement exploration exercises, standard creations and improvisations, and creative body work.
All of this with the purpose of providing us with the necessary tools to create organic and fluid dances based on listening, respect, trust, play, and spontaneity. Each course will develop and adapt to the level and needs of the participants.
CI History
Contact Improvisation develops in the 60s and 70 in the U.S.A., by a group of people led by Steve Paxton.
CI, within the social context in which it is born, originates from body contact exploration, the search of new forms of movement, spontaneity, and breaking away from the uniformity in movement. It arises from the relationship between different physical activities like aikido, somatic therapies, social dances and some modern dance techniques.
Since then, maintaining its essence based on contact and improvisation, it takes diverse forms and applications: as dance in itself, as language in contemporary dance, as acrobatic resource, as playful and creative space, and as communicational and therapeutic tool.
Performance Contact
This workshop is a space to explore CI's creative and scenic possibilities, with the goal to:
* Find new qualities in our dance.
* Live dance from a more playful and creative space.
* Use improvisation in contact as a way of scenic work.
* Explore CI's great “theatrical” possibilities, useful in dance, theater, performances…
* Use CI as a composition and choreographic tool.
